Chapter One Assignments

1. Create a list of all the characters introduced in Chapter One. Write their name, full if possible, along with some character traits or job titles they hold in your Reflective Learning Journal. Make sure to skip a few lines between each character so you can add more details as you continue to read the story. 

2. Select one character that you have a similar connection with. Comment on blog who that character is and how you are similar. Do the same with one that is different than you. State specific evidence for both your side and the novel character's side. 

3. Create a commercial with your group about the new funeral parlor using the slogan written on page 6 with your group. Make sure that everyone in your group has a speaking part and that you are persuasive in trying to get customers to use the Bessledorf Funeral Parlor's services. Pitch the idea to Ms. Erickson without scripts. May the best advertising group win!

4. Create a family portrait of the Magruder family. Make sure to label the correct names with the correct individuals. The novel is very specific in telling you who is who in the book. Frame the portrait and turn into Ms. Erickson. Only Rules: No stick figures may be used and portrait must be in color. Be creative!

                      All assignments are due on Friday, January 9th after reading class ends.
